Hi, Regarding the Variation between Grid, True & Magnetic North. If you have a current issue of the Ordnance Survey Explorer Map No.28 - Dartmoor, and view the South Sheet. My map is Issue B2, not got B3 yet. In the bottom Left Hand corner you will see the Legend details for the map. On the far Righ...

Hello everyone, Only one person waited at the bus stop this morning to catch me with my special stamp. Thank you Sandra! So that was the end of the Service No.48 from Plymouth to Burrator. As it happens, I was the last person, to buy a ticket on the last trip from Burrator. Just me on the trip home....

Hi, There seems to be a bit of confusion over which day the last bus will run from Burrator Reservoir. Devon CC say 10th April. First's web site timetables say 3rd March. I am awaiting a reply from Devon CC for absolute confirmation. So in the meantime, we will assume it is 10th April. Devon CC has ...

Not so bad after all

Hi Having seen the revised timetables for the buses to and from Dartmoor, it seems I was shouting before I was hurt. Most of the buses, at the times I like to catch them are OK. It seems the mid afternoon, and less used services are affected. Some services have been combined to make them more effici...

I use both. When I initially visit an area, I look for all the boxes with GPS's first. Then, on subsequent visits, I look for letterboxes that need compass work to find. I think it's human nature to get the 'easy' ones first. Why traipse around the moor with a compass and only get a few stamps, when...

Hi Sowerby Streaker, Yes there are loads of letterboxers in Plymouth, and I'm sure a few would offer lifts. Once I get used to the new timetables, I'm sure I will adapt my letterboxing habit to suit. I have been meaning to 'wild camp' on Dartmoor a bit more, and this may encourage me. It's just the ...

Hi Wandering Artist, Yes the majority of my letterboxing is done by bus. There have been a few occasions in the past when I have letterboxed with friends who drove to the moor, but it's very rare that I do so now. The withdrawal of some of the bus routes will make getting to and from the moor a lot ...

Letterboxing by bus

I don't know how many of you use Public Transport to access Dartmoor for letterboxing trips, but be warned, the axe is falling on several services. The No.48 - Burrator bus on Sundays & Bank Holidays is being completely withdrawn. The No.98 Yelverton to Princetown & Tavistock is being reduced. A lot...

DNP Boundary Stones

Hi Devon Steamer, I tend to photograph stones of all descriptions whilst out letterboxing, and have listed those DNP Stones found to date. Bearing in mind I only use public transport & my legs. I noticed a few along No.118 bus route from Mary Tavy to Lydford. A suggestion would be to look at the OS ...

Milestone Charity Walk

Hi Everyone, As a result of those people purchasing The Devon Milestone Charity Walk, we have been able to re paint a once lost Mile Post found in a council yard at Kingsbridge. This Mile Post was re-instated at Bittaford on 19th October 2010. I have put a link to a photo of the stone below. Other p...

Hi, There were 2 new walks advertised on the latest update sheets. One around Mel Tor, the other takes you from Princetown to Hart Tor and back. Whether both walks are actually on site now I don't know, but the Mel Tor one states "clue sheets available from....." so one must assume it is out now. Th...

Hi Forward Finders,
I went to the location the GPS took me and searched the area, but no box was found.
I will have to get in touch with the organiser to confirm it has been stolen.
Thanks for your input.

Mercy Ships 2010

Hi Everyone,
Has anyone done the Mercy Ships 2010 Walk recently?
I was out doing the walk over the weekend just gone and could not find No.13. Has anyone else had this problem? Has it been reported as stolen?
Any info appreciated.

Good for you Nik. Now you have to decide where to go. I suppose you're spoilt for choice.
Hopefully, all being well, I intend getting myself up to Prewely for the weekend, camp at Bundu and collect the Mercy Ships walk.

White card

Hi Cutmaster7. I use 6" x 4" white card and I usually purchase 1000 at the Meet, when I need it, from the chap from Ink Print (Les). I think it cost £8.00 last time I got some. Obvioulsy you don't have to buy 1000, you can have as many as you want, although I think he does them in packs of 250, not ...
