As this was being lead by Dr Bob Bruce, we joined the chattering throng for a non-letterboxing walk - doubly unusual for us.
There were certainly quite a few others
Whilst peering at a leat cutting across Beckamoor Brook , we spotted this
yes - its a patch of that dreaded garden invader - bamboo!
a willing sacrifice to experimental archaeology
how many times have we been here & not seen this before
or the benchmark on this
shortly after this, they stopped for elevenses - we hadn't started moving until after 10. Mindful of a tree we had to fell before nightfall, we said our cheerios & left them to it. Very interesting to take a closer & different look at features 
They're walking the Quarryman's path on Sat 4th Feb if anyone's interested.

Hi Restells,
It seems you had a good walk with the DPA. It is surprising what objects of interest go un-noticed whilst out on the moor.
Not wishing to nit-pick, but the stone with a bench mark on it, is in fact a Boundary Rock of Whitchurch Parish. See Brewer P.165 and photo in top RH corner & Page 167 and diagram shwing location of stones.
There are several Whitchurch & Whitchurch / Sampford Spiney Boundary stones in the area. Some are square stones placed on the boundary, others are just letters inscribed into earthfast rocks.
Never noticed the bamboo before. Does the National Park intend to removed the plant?

Hi Noddy,
Boundary stones - yep 'W' - we were given an extract (fig S1 Brewer). The benchmark I was referring to is on Windy Post. Couldn't see either til they were pointed out & then had to rub peat in to photo.

An apology due.
I see, the title for the photos is above corresponding photo. Maybe that's why I got confused with some of the descriptions.
I'm due an eye test, best book it soon, don't you think.
