Just to let anyone know who plans to do the Hospiscare Birds Walk, that unfortunately the phantom letterbox stealer has taken Box 7 of this lovely walk.

Why do they do it? It is so senseless.

Another stamp is going to be made up to replace Box 7 which is currently missing. Apparently, it was there on Thursday, but gone today. The owners put the notice in the hole advising the box had been stolen so they are aware of it.

It's so annoying for the poor owners to suffer losses by such mindless idiots. I really hope you're theory is wrong though Nic, that it is someone that might attend the meets and sets about wrecking the walks deliberately. Surely this can't be so??? :(

Hi Tina, why people do this and what they get out of it I don't know. I suppose someone want to collect stamps and not just the print of one. :x

Have just got a replacement stamp sorted out and will hopefully get it out in place before the weekend. Hope that whoever stole the last one is feeling happy, obviously their need was greater than that of the hospice. Let's hope that if ever they need help from any of the charities that they steal from - for that is what it amounts to - that the funds are there for them to be helped.

Let's hope they don't steal anymore - it's just disgraceful.

Tina

p.s. the stamps are lovely although I regret to advise that I don't know what all the birds are called.

I completed this walk this afternoon, and very nice it was. No7 was indeed missing but I fear that more will go missing soon. The walk basically goes up one side and down the other of the path that was once the old Princetown railway. What I believe will be the problem is that while sat at the box sites I was clearly visible from what is a very busy path used by walkers & mountain bikers. It only takes one rogue to decimate the walk.

Sadly, I have to agree with you, although this would be a real shame, because the walk and the stamps are great.

Missing box has now been replaced with a temporary bird stamp while we get another one cut. If anyone from here is going out to do the walk could they please add a note to the visitors book to this effect please.

Why not stick a note in Box 1 or Box6 to save people searching for it.

Because if you read my previous log it says the box has been replaced!!

Thanks for that MMM - I might pop along once you have had the other one made up. The others were such lovely stamps. I hope you don't get any more stolen and also hope the fundraising is going well.

Take care

Why is it that it's always the walks with the nicest stamps that get vandalised? The less-good ones are rarely touched! I guess if an ignoramus finds a pretty stamp they might want to take it, but if it is a 'professional' vandal why do they just single out the plum ones?! Gaargh!
