We Didn't Expect To See A Person Cycling

I was walking today with a friend between High Willhays and Yes Tor, (very cold and a small amount of snow), when a dog appeared between us. On turning around I saw his owner cycling down from High Willhays on his mountain bike! He stopped and chatted with us for a while before continuing on down the track and then up and over Yes Tor. He had started his journey in Okehampton!

If you know the track between High Willhays and Yes Tor, you will know that at this time of year it is rather wet, muddy and in place strewn with boulders. At no time did he fall off or get off his bike - very impressive in the conditions.

Unfortunately his tyres left a considerable impression in the soft mud to a depth of six to eight inches in places which left me impressed by his cycling ability and dismayed by the marks on the land that he left behind.

Where is the most unusual place you have met a cyclist on the moor?

Wherever it is, it won't be higher!

Actually you are only supposed to use the old rail tracks and not the moor itself without permission as as you said it causes damage to the moor, cycle tracks can take up to a year to repair itself
