The Hairy Feet letterbox

found recently by an acquaintance of mine somewhere near the Bowerman's Nose. It was waterlogged, the lid not having been put back on securely. The stamp was in poor condition; the Visitors' Book even more so. The Box and contents were taken home, dried out, owner's details becoming just-about legib...

Is this the end of the road?

Seven months now since I began this post. Sowerby Streaker's friend who had found my letterbox in 2012 has recently returned to the site with the bracken having died back. She reports no sign of "Bernadette's Box". With a heavy heart, I now have to take the rational position that in all pr...

Re: Old Clues

I doubt if any of the 195 24 year old clues are still current. Would any of them be in the current Catalogue 24 years later? I very much doubt it. Letterboxes would expect to be retired after much less time than this if they survive for years: wear and tear, weather, vandals, finders putting them ba...

Re: Can anyone help please?

I've been asked to give an update: it's 15 weeks since I launched this post. 3135 views to date: far, far more than I could ever have hoped. 3 correspondents have said that they will make a purposeful search for my missing Bernadette's Box. The bracken and undergrowth have been so thick that searchi...

Re: Can anyone help please?

Thank you, Sowerby Streaker, and also to your friend who came across my box in 2012. Yes please: I'd be grateful if you would look in the area when the bracken has died down. The stamp was indeed a teddy bear. My late younger sister inherited teddy bears from her two brothers in turn. I'm not intend...

Re: Can anyone help please?

An honourable and most gracious response from you, Nik, made sotto voce. Thank you. The new motif is easier on the eye and improves on the original. I'd like now to make appeal anew for help in trying to find and take in my sole remaining letterbox from the Lydford area. My sister lived in Mary Tavy...

Re: Can anyone help please?

My location says where I am based: Hemel Hempstead in Herts. I'm a northerner by birth and upbringing but came here for work. I think that my stay in the Forum will be short-lived. My wife's accident, becoming disabled, and my giving up work to be her Carer precludes my letterboxing in future. Hence...

Re: A few rules for this site

I've got one of those at home - she's always right. Or, more accurately, she thinks she is.

Re: Can anyone help please?

Thank you for the good wishes. I've had one offer to look so far. If I get any more, then I'll accept up to two more: easier then to keep in touch and notify any results. I did have a box stolen many years ago but I learned the lesson to put newer boxes further off the road, less visible, and in les...

Re: A few rules for this site

Just a small point from a newcomer: there is no such word as "orientated". It goes like "fragment" - fragment, fragmented, fragmentation. Hence: orient, oriented, orientation. It's a common mistake.

Can anyone help please?

I and my wife used to letterbox. We had 4 unregistered boxes out on the moor. She had an accident at home, became disabled and now has to use a wheelchair. I had to give up work to be her f/t Carer.I came back to Dartmoor last week to take in my four boxes as I will no longer be able to maintain the...
