Dartmoor firing notice

From 'A Guide for Walkers' leaflet :
Quote- ''Entry into the Range Danger Area displaying warning signals is forbidden and is of course dangerous''.

Dartmoor firing notice

No matter where anyone obtains the information of Range Firing - access - it is absolutely essential it is known , acknowledged, and abided by, at all times by ALL those wishing to walk Dartmoor within the Range areas!
Not to do so is very foolhardy, and ( I would hope!) probably a criminal act.

MOD / Willsworthy - Ban of Letterboxes

With a bit of luck the 'sabre rattling' group will wave it around enough that they end up cutting their own throats! As for Geo`s - is not the rest of the world enough space for you to carry out your 'thingy', that us ORIGINALS - i.e. letterboxers - can enjoy what has been going on for 'rather a lot...

MOD / Willsworthy - Ban of Letterboxes

I have not seen any documents relating to the discussion but am interested, obviously as a keen letterboxer, as to the real outcome. I am sure someone will correct me or comment as to the following- The Mod do not own the ranges land on Dartmoor they lease it and only under close scrutiny and agreed...

Fur Tor box

As far as I recollect the'official' Fur Tor box has long gone, with the wooden box it was sited in still in the 'cave' entrance still there on the west side of main o/c. However there has been, for a number of years a box sited on a shelf within the 'cave', which may be considered as the box. Do not...

DARTMOOR OCCUPATIONS CHARITY WALK

It is dispicable that anyone removes any charity walk boxes, but even more so that the stamps donated for the walk are from a well respected boxer no longer with us.I know very well what I would like to do with the thief! Whoever it was has played a game, I reckon, since box 2 was well in tact, then...

Sammy Arnolds Lane

EWB - last count was 28,973 but that was quite a while ago and since then some ramblers etc have added to it - me included.
The grandchildren loved to climb to the top and have a photo!

Sammy Arnolds Lane

'Walking Dartmoors Ancient Tracks' by Eric Hemery page 202
Peat cutter brought down countless loads of peat from Dinger Plain for Knack Mine - hence the lane took his name ever since.

Observation posts?

The information by SS is of course correct and all credit to the person who researched the locations. I also have a Military map, dated 14 May 1993, which gives Military access routes to the Moor, all Ranges, and range zones within ranges, Flag poles and Datum Poles as they were, and all OP`s. Would...

Foxtor Mires

Quite a long time ago I crossed the mire - with the hair standing on end! I followed a green path along the mounds to the last of the mounds, towards the west of the mire. Slightly to the East of the last mound was the rotting remnants of what was, I imagine, a footbridge of some sort. This spanned ...

Where to take a (4 year old) new recruit

How about: 1.Park at Barn Hill and walk the numerous paths to Windy Post - Feather Tor - Heckwood Tor - Pew Tor and back to Barn Hill. 2. Park as above and up to Cox Tor - or skirt around it - lovely scenery! 3. Park as above and follow upstream to right of Coxs Tor to pond -cut right to Staple Tors...
