Re: New to letterboxing

Hi Scott (?), I've always used Silva compasses, and have found them very reliable; I've not used other types so cannot compare. The most important question is whether to buy a sighting compass, which is much more expensive but also more accurate for getting the cross-bearings right, than your averag...

Re: New to letterboxing

Hi GoblinFeet, you asked about compasses. When I restarted boxing a few years ago I tried to use a standard Silva compass (the current version would be the Explorer 203). While that is fine for general navigation and for walking x paces on y bearing from a known point, it is not good for doing cross...

Found: compass graduated in mils

I know this is likely to belong to the army, but I thought I would offer a chance for anyone else who has lost a compass graduated in mils to give me a shout first. It's basically a Silva 4/54, but without their name on it. We found it on 28 March at approx GR 570744. Please PM me it you think it mi...

Price of Charity Walks

The standard cost of the clue sheet for a charity walk seems to be £2.50. This hasn't changed for quite a few years (certainly since I returned to letterboxing in 2011). This is an absolute bargain (13-20p per box). I bought most of the walks at the recent meet, and even if I don't get around to doi...

Lots of little patches elsewhere as well. This week I've seen the results of swaling at:

Dr Blackall's Drive
East side of Barn Hill
Above Two Bridges, on the N side of the B3212/B3357 junction.

I've already e-mailed Malcolm for the update, with both this and the sighting compass in my other post. I'll also let him know if either are claimed before then.
