Protecting public land... a petition

I don't know if any of you out there have heard of 38 degrees - but they are an action group the government actually fears, and the have brought to light something that affects us all This could technically affect Dartmoor, the government wants to abolish the laws that currently prevent building on ...

Jennsie, don't be put off by what others think, I have met a few who were a bit indifferent to me with certain boxes I had found on the moor. Namely WOM boxes, but they soon realised I was a genuine boxer by sending them a polite email about the condition of their box, be it good or bad, and when I ...

It helps to know the name, usually found in the front of the book. Quite often these are bonus stamps, or stamps put out by young children as a starting point for being a letterboxer. You do need to know the name, and if you can scan/photograph it put it on the section And this stamp is.... On a sep...

Welcome to the site, Sas. Years ago there used to be dozens of stamps all around Kings Tor, anywhere up to 90 of them. About 5 years ago the whole area was cleared of all stamps by a non-letterboxer (possibly a farmer). I was out there a couple of years back and didn't find any. However, don't despa...

This answer is pure speculation....
The Hare may well be a moving box, and the other left in the box by a guilty boxer who forgot to put it back in its original site when last out boxing

Have to agree with you there Noddy. We need to pressurise the bus companies to make it worth bussing it out to the moors...

Sort of reminded me of a bus service that went to a village with no shops, with one bus on the Monday and the other on the Thursday, and no returns

The best list is to be found on Ian Kirkpatrick's website, as it listed perhaps the most up to date list off boxes off Dartmoor.
The site is back up again... I'll PM you the link.

Before Wistman's Wood was deemed a Newtake there was a box hanging from a tree. I remember Staple Tor Skier was on the end of a fifteen foot rope.
However, any boxes I find in dangerous places I will remove and return to the owner... So far that is zero found.

The other things to be wary of is a blizzard... a total whiteout... Some years ago I was out on the moors with my family when the snow started to fall up by Soldiers Pond. Couldn't see a thing and had to rely upon the traffic rolling over the cattle grid to give us a direction to go in, as sound we ...

Hi Red Curl, welcome to the site. I am just wondering exactly how "obsessed" as a letterboxer you will want to become? Have you tried EBay.co.uk? I only say this because most letterboxers I know tend to hang onto their old copies of their catalogues mainly as a reference to some of the old...
